A calm place to find your starting point at AERA.
If you’ve found your way here, you probably care deeply about your horse — and you’re looking for support that feels thoughtful, ethical, and genuinely helpful.
AERA works differently to traditional lesson systems.
Rather than offering one-off sessions, coaching is organised through learning Pathways that support horse and rider development over time.
This page will help you understand:
-
how AERA coaching works
-
where you might fit
-
and what the best next step is for you
You don’t need to have it all figured out before you begin.
How coaching works at AERA
Learning with horses is a gradual, layered process.
Skills develop through practice, reflection, and growing understanding — not through quick fixes.
At AERA, coaching is offered through Pathways that support different stages of learning, from early foundations through to mindful sport training.
Each Pathway:
-
focuses on understanding before outcomes
-
supports both horse and human
-
adapts to real life and individual circumstances
-
encourages growing independence and confidence over time
Which Pathway might suit you?
You don’t need to decide this alone — but here’s a brief guide.

Foundations
You might start here if:
-
you’re new to horses, returning after a break, or want stronger groundwork skills
-
you want to understand how horses think, feel, and move
-
you value learning before riding or alongside it
Horse & Rider Development
You might start here if:
-
you already ride or own/share a horse
-
you want consistent, thoughtful development over time
-
you’re ready to take increasing responsibility for your learning
Mindful Riding as a Sport
You might start here if:
-
you compete (or plan to) in dressage, show jumping, or eventing
-
you want to pursue sport while prioritising your horse’s experience
-
you’re questioning conventional approaches and want a more considered way forward
Specialised Pathways
You might explore these if:
-
your horse is unridden, retired, recovering, or young
-
you’re focusing on groundwork, enrichment, or horse education
-
you’re looking for support tailored to your horse’s stage of life
Not sure where you fit? No problem.
Many riders arrive feeling unsure, overwhelmed by advice, or uncertain about the “right” next step.
You don’t need to choose a Pathway on your own.
That’s what the Trial Session is for.
Your first step: the Trial Session

The Trial Session is a welcoming, no-pressure way to explore whether working together feels right.
It gives us time to:
-
talk through your goals and current situation
-
look at how you and your horse are working together
-
explore which Pathway (if any) might support you best
There’s no obligation to continue.
Clarity — for both of us — is the priority.
